Eight Reasons To Move To Sweden – Like Now!

This week I’ve been entertaining (or annoying) you with the fact that I am in the middle of a living room redo. After I’d painted my walls, I got rid of my old Ikea sofa and I am expecting my new BoConcept sofa next week. Until then, I am sitting on my floor and daydreaming of beautifully spacious interiors (unlike mine). After my design trip to Copenhagen I am strongly inspired by nordic influences and set off to find inspiration online. This is how I found eight very good reasons to move to Sweden – like right now!

1. Top image: I am dreaming of a living room with long bright wooden planks and sliding door in between the rooms. And that wall light fixtures.

2. A beautifully styled living room with grey and black, a fabulous hanging light with exposed bulbs and design classics. Yes please!

3. I love the fresh infusion of icy blue in this room. The patterns on the home textiles and the rug add interest and the pale pink ranunculus are the cherry on the cake.

4. I love the comfy look of this sofa styling. The ottomans serve as soft coffee tables and the neutral colour palette is calm and serene.

5. These windows, that green sight and the plants on the windowsill – big like. And I really like the zinc basket on the right side.

6. This room is fabulous – the carefully placed lighting highlights different areas and makes the room look cosy despite its size. The vintage coffee table and the earthy hues are more reasons to love this room.

7. Can we just mention the natural light here? I mean seriously, that natural light? Love, love, love. Again, I like the dusky blue cushions here and the cool floor lamps.

8. The grey, anthracite and black colour in this living room would look gloomy if not brightened up by the white bench/coffee table (have you noticed the cool black carving on the legs?), the patterned cushions and the white floor lamp. Great!

So who’s moving with me to Sweden?

Happy Friday, friends!

Emelie, in my imagination all Swedes live in airy, bright, spacious homes with wooden flooring and design classics. Let me dream LOL

Sorry, didn’t mean to ruin your dream ;) In general the homes here are quite bright, but spacious – sometimes but not everywhere. And the design classics are very rare ;)

I love the one with the greenery outside. I know what you feel. I went to CPH a couple of years ago (already?!?) with kids and hubby and I just fell in love with the city, with practically everything in the city. It was the month of May, it was hot and sunny, people were cool and relaxed, interiors were to die for … and despite what locals told me (long cold winters, little light for 8 months a year etc) when I came back I tried to convince the whole family to move there … I mean REALLY move there. I started looking for a job for my husband (his salary was way more consistent than mine for the family life ;-) and I was ready to move instantly … even without knowing a word of Danish! We are planning to do a summer trip to Denmark to discover the countryside and other cities. Now that we live in Southern France, we won’t need hot holidays destinations ;-) Have a lovely day and keep on dreaming about it … who knows, it might happen to you :-) xxx

That’s amazing, Ilaria! Even though you’re a kid of the Mediterranean you would have considered a Scandi home base! That speaks for the inspiring power of our northern neighbors!

All wonderful Igor. I’m with you! Though I would have to opt for Denmark first given the choice.

How would you summarise Swedish interior design? Just curious. G :-)

Tricky, Gerard! I’m still trying to find a clear line between, let’s say Danish and Swedish interior design. Or Norwegian for that matter. Maybe this could turn into a blog series involving local design bloggers. Hm, let’s discuss this in Copenhagen;-)

Great inspiration Igor! I would love to have a second home in Scandinavia :) Daydreaming ….

Can’t wait to see your living room redo.

    Xx.

Hi! At first, very compliment for your blog! We started to follow you one month ago and we really like it! About two years ago we started the “fabulous world” of the home restructuring, and also started the “fabulous world” of the scandinavian blogs ;-) We really like all the details that you explain in your post! We try every day, during our furnish home, to reproduce this scandinavian style. Can’t wait to see your new living room!!!

I’m absolutely with you! And if this post would belong to your why-this-room-caught-my-eye series my answer is: white wooden planks (1), the light (2), the icy blue chair (3), the flower arrangement (4), the zinc basket (5), the whole arrangement ! (6), the lamps (7), the anthracite carpet (8)-julia

These photos are a great inspiration to look at. The rug in (1) and the cushions in (3) are lovely products. Who are the designers/manufactures?

You have used a very good mix of styles, textures and products in all of these, 6 has got to be my favorite. I think your blog is great and I’m going to continue to look…

Stunning images! We love the way the dark black lines help define some contrasting definitions in the rooms. It’s also lovely to see how the rooms are warmed up so well with gorgeous rugs, mixing beautifully with the warm wood look and feel.
