Today I am happy to feature one creative person I have met through Instagram and followed her creative work ever since. It is Kreetta Järvenpää, a Finnish photographer and creative artist based in Helsinki (you can find her blog HERE). I admire her photography full of atmosphere and emotions – her style is special reflecting her Nordic roots and creative mind. One of her latest creative projects, the so-called Flower Frogs, are a perfect example to showcase her photography style and creativity. I will let Kreetta herself explain the Flower Frogs.

I have made these ceramic Flower Frogs because I love flowers. I love them through all their life. When they are in bloom, wilted and finally dried. Lately I am enjoying them by using my Flower Frogs. Flower Frogs can also be used in a vase and if you use a glass vase you can see these charming ‘frogs’ too. The main use for the Flower Frogs is to help you make nice flower arrangements. I have designed the ‘frogs’ so that flowers get water even though they are on a ‘frog’ because there is some extra space to that the flowers can get the water. I have made these ceramic items in a traditional way and some of them I’ve made with using the Raku technique. They can be left in the water but it is always a good idea to dry them when you take your flowers out of the water.

You can also use them with dried flowers. They can be a part of your beautiful table setting or bring inspiration at your workspace. With the Flower Frogs I love to display my favorite dried flowers. Another great way to use the ‘Flower Frogs’ is for Ikebana arrangements. I think my aesthetic in ceramics is a bit related to the Japanese ‘wabi-sabi’ tradition – the art of imperfection. My ceramic pieces aren’t perfect. We all are born, we grow up, get older and finally die. Every living thing makes the same but I think that flowers and plants make it the most beautiful way and I’m happy to create pieces to enhance and extend their beautiful existence for a bit longer.

As someone who loves ceramics, especially handmade pieces, someone who admires Japanese techniques and traditions, someone who loves plants and flowers, these pieces are a beautiful new idea to include a unique piece into a home. Definitely an eye-catcher and a one-of-a-kind item for beautiful flower arrangements. Thank you Kreetta for this creative idea!
