Do you have airplants at home? I had one, but recently I have added two more thanks to Etairnity, a Dutch airplant specialist. As part of our Urban Jungle Bloggers project we have teamed up with Etairnity to offer you all a cool giveaway. But before I get into the details, let me tell you a bit about Etairnity and airplants. Airplants – or more correctly Tillandsia – are really cool and funky plants: they are rootless and need not to be planted in soil. All they need to survive is air and some water from time to time. Hence airplants are the perfect low-maintenance plants for anyone who wants greens in the home without the hassle of extensive plant care.

Etairnity was born out of the love for airplants. Since the plants are rootless they seem to not have a real home. Thus the folks at Etairnity decided to design simple and minimalistic airplant ‘homes’. These are made of wood and have a wonderful natural, earthy vibe yet they fit into any kind of interior. I have opted for two wooden discs that can simply be sticked on the wall with a mini magnet – easy and perfect for a rented place like mine! Etairnity not only offers various airplant ‘homes’, they also offer a lovely selection of airplants. So if you feel inspired to add one or two airplants into your home too, you need not look any further!

Airplants are very simple to maintain: Just spray them with water like once a week or let them sit in water for one hour per week. You can also use a liquid fertilizer from time to time that can simply be sprayed on them. Nothing else needed! Put them in a spot with enough natural light and get them a nice home – like the Etairnity pieces. But hey, I mentioned a giveaway, didn’t I? Here are the details!

I love air plants (but that you know 😉 and these stands are beautiful. I love the wooden touch and their minimalist look, perfect with minimalist plants as air plants! The cubes are gorgeous and perfect for the shelves I display my air plants on (I know for sure I will never put them on walls). Let’s keep my fingers crossed to find a new proper home for my three beauties who tend to lie on a shelf, sit on a cup or hang on a fishing wire, waiting for me to find them a better place! xx

I love the CUBE. It’s linear minimalistic structure becomes harshly obscured by the plant inside which creates an ever changing dramatic appearance.

  • Reply lynda 26 August 2015 at 11:29

I love the discs the most! Why? With them I can bring green into my “stairarea” by simply putting them up the wall! It’s a dark area where nothing else will survive ;). would be a nice piece of green art!

    Wish me luck 😛

Thank you for this great giveaway!

Airplants look superinteresting, but sadly my two airplants were killed by my cat. I failed to make him understand that something so attractive WAS NOT actually a cat toy. I had suspended them from a window in thick gauge copper wire, so they had slight movement and shinyness, too. I can’t even really blame him, because they were very pretty and inviting.

Anyway. the product I love the most from Etairnity is the Hanging Sphere. There is something very satisfying and pleasing about the combination of the roundness and the shapes of the airplants.

  • Reply Nannette 26 August 2015 at 13:34

I admit that I went back to putting plants in my home by starting with some air plants. They’re a bit like tiny little poems for the home.
I really like the hanging-sphere as much as the cubes, but I thought the discs are such a smart idea and thus more original.
    Nice discovery, anyway!
    Happy give-away to all!

I have seen so many airplants on blogs but never found a place to buy them in the Netherlands before! I like the hanging sphere the most, I like organic shapes combined with plants and this shape really accentuates the beauty of the wood!

    Hej Igor!

Oh Tilandsien hatte ich noch nie. Der Cube sieht gut aus, besonders im Kontrast zu den Pflanzen. Ein einzelner an der Wand ist bestimmt ein Hingucker.

    Liebe Grüße, Jan

I love the idea of the discs – making it as simple as possible to have a beautiful plant in the house. The discs would be great for keeping the plants out of reach of my cat. My favorite airplant is the Tillandsia Ionantha Rubra – I love the touch of pink/red!

  • Reply Kimberly 26 August 2015 at 22:15

I love the hanging sphere. It reminds me of a snail. It looks whimsical but still super modern.

  • Reply Phoebe 26 August 2015 at 23:22

I love the hanging spheres! They’d be perfect to fill in vertical space in my office where I can’t make changes to the walls.

I love Tillandsias. Unfortunately I’ve killed a couple of them by placing them in a glass sphere. Trapped moisture I guess…I really like the wooden spheres since they much perfectly with my interiors and they
seem also more suitable for these plants! Great give away Igor!

Wow, a perfect giveaway! I could use a little companion for my other airplant (which is really getting big – I don’t know where to put it!). The hanging sphere is beautiful! Even considering to buy one myself!
    I hope to win! 🙂

  • Reply caroline 27 August 2015 at 14:00

oh man the discs!!! and I love that you can just buy the airplants on the same site too!

  • Reply Devon 27 August 2015 at 14:47

I LOVE the spheres. I also love the cubes, but the spheres are the best.

  • Reply Megs 27 August 2015 at 21:39

I love the disks…there is something fascinatingly vulnerable in being able to see the plant in it’s entirety. Kind of like a humane version of the Victorian butterfly specimen pinned to a tray. But alive and thriving. Art that lives and breathes and grows.

  • Reply Kate 27 August 2015 at 23:48

Definitely the wooden discs. I think they would fit perfectly in my boyfriend’s office which has a mid-century modern design! Also he has run out of shelf space so I love the idea of making a feature of the air plants all over the walls. Timeless classics!

  • Reply Shannon 28 August 2015 at 00:43

Thanks for the opportunity! My favorite planter is the disc – living in smallish apartments has made me look for creative ways to fit plants into every space. This does the job!

i love the discs! they would fit perfectly in my place as they are simple wood pieces and have a mid century vibe. my whole appartment is full of vintage furniture from market finds to pieces from my grandparents. id love to have these as an accent on my walls and to bring in some simple plants and splashes of green into my appartment.

My favourite is the Tillandsia Bulbosa and I like a lot the cube and the disk. In the village where I live, in the Mediterranean costa in Spain, there are many airplants hanging from balconys or windows. People don’t water them, they survive and grow up just from the humidity in the air.
I also do planters, I work with ceramics and I’m going to try to do a planter for an air plant. You can see my work in Instagram: @martungas
