No matter what you think of Ikea – now it is time to say ‘chapeau’! I think teaming up with the world renown designer Ilse Crawford was the best move Ikea could take right now – it pitchforked Ikea right into the center of many interior design conversations. Ilse Crawford’s new SINNERLIG collection for Ikea is the design epitome of the times we live in: it is the alternative draft of the digital age we live in with our fast paced daily routines and nonstop online connections. We crave for real moments, gatherings, we wish ourselves back to the roots. In interior design we crave for softer, natural materials that will entice our senses, like wood and cork. These thoughts guided Ilse Crawford and her ‘Studioilse’ team when designing SINNERLIG.
Last year I spent a week in Portugal where I accompanied local cork growers during the cork harvest in the Alentejo region (read all about it HERE). I really learned to appreciate cork as a material in interior design and for home accessories, so I was fascinated to see the new Ikea SINNERLIG collection by Ilse Crawford featuring a lot of wood and cork. But it is not only the materials: I also love the simple lines and organic shapes of this collection as well as the natural colour palette. It truly juxtaposes my daily life submerged in digital frenzy.
Ikea will launch the new SINNERLIG collection in August 2015. So get ready and I’ll see you in the queue at Ikea in August!
