Last weekend was a snowy one here in Munich and most time I stayed in to finish a few chores at home. One fun task was to restyle my sideboard in the bedroom which was more or less untouched for a long time. I felt it was time to give it a new look with what I have around and emphasize the natural look with an earthy boho touch in my bedroom. I love everything on the sideboard and every piece was carefully chosen. It is a mix of vintage items and new pieces. And quite a few plants, obviously.
Why have I opted for the natural look in my bedroom? Well first and foremost it is so pleasant to wake up in the morning and be surrounded by plants and a natural vibe. Especially for me who is not a morning person – I need any encouragement possible to get me going in the morning. Moreover the natural look comes with further benefits for the living and sleeping environment: Natural materials do not emit toxic odours and plants purify the air additionally. Did you know that a snake plant is the best option for a bedroom? The snake plant converts CO2 into oxygen during the night thus enhancing the air quality and improving your good night’s sleep.
Any sideboard serves as a good styling playground, right? I have put together some of my favorite vintage ceramics pieces with an earthy touch. Among the pieces is a vintage water/wine jug from Serbia that reminds me of my grandmother as she used to drink water out of such a jug. This time I have also covered my sideboard’s glass top with a vintage tablecloth. Deep inside I hope this will reduce my dust cleaning activities considerably:-) We will see!
So I encourage you to enhance your bedroom – especially by adding a snake plant for better air and better sleep (mine is having a baby by the way)! Happy new week!

Hello Igor ! I love your style ! It’s so quiet and zen… A yellow items give some happiness to this room !
Thanks a lot Sadia! I agree, yellow is such a happy colour and makes a room really shine!
I love the pops of yellow among the green plants!
And speaking about plants – do you have a go-to nursery or shop in Munich for buying plants? I find the city has a good selection of flower shops, but it becomes a bit more challenging when it comes to finding more interesting green, houseplants. Danke im Voraus!
To be honest, I can only underline your observation. I find Munich very difficult for plant shopping. You can mostly find regular ones. I have bought a few plants at Seebauer, but mostly I try to get cuttings from friends or bring back cuttings from trips to expand my plant selection.
Oh what a tranquil space Igor, love all the greenery and art 🙂
Have a fab day my friend,
A xx
Thank you Anya! Wish you a great day too from grey Munich! xx
I love your bedroom restyle. Such a calming retreat for the winter months – and of course, very biophilic 🙂
Thank you very much Sarah! Indeed, it is pretty biophilic! And a very relaxing zone in my home. My zen corner:-)
Beautiful styling, love it! Especially that ceramic tray with all the gorgeous vintage pieces on it … in fact, I’m swooning over here!
Thanks a lot Lisa and I knew you gonna love my vintage ceramics! We share that passion obviously:-)
I spot Ivo Andrić, great taste in books as well as in interiors!
Ha, you are the first one who spied on my books! Bravo! And thank you, Ivo Andric is a classic indeed!
Oh I had one of those snake plants in the kitchen in Sydney! I’m going to get one now and put it in my bedroom, thank you Igor. Lovely styling! I really love the colour palette of your bedroom, it works so beautifully with the greens and pottery. x
Thank you Mel!! Yes, get one, it’s really a great plant for the bedroom! I have one sitting right next to my bed. In fact it’s the first thing I see in the morning when I wake up:-)

One thing I love about the photos above is the placement of plants in the room. I believe that seeing plants inside a room is a natural stress remedy. Creating that wonderful and comfortable look for your bedroom is an ideal thing to help keep yourself motivated and positive. It’s always a nice feeling waking up in the morning seeing your room clean, natural and simple yet elegant.
Thank you so much Gail! These are my thoughts exactly – I think there is nothing more positive and nicer than a room with thriving plants!
Really had a great time upon reading your thoughts through this article. It was basically worth it.
Exactly Igor.
