Recently I was thinking about why some people seem to constantly dislike their home and what they have at home. I am pretty sure there are like dozens of reasons, but one could be that people see their home as a static place, as an unchangeable constant that will only experience alteration if it is inevitable, think of broken furniture, worn out rugs, cracked frames. But a home should never be a constant in that term – it should rather be ever changing and evolving in the pace you change and evolve as a personality.

The overall structure of my home is rather unchanged yet my home is in constant flux. There is always a bit her and a tad there changing. And this seems to do the trick for me – it keeps me going, keeps me thinking and rethinking my interiors and thus adapting my personal surroundings to my current state of mind, to my likes, interests, passions. It feels in sync with my personality and thus it makes me feel content and happy.

The latest changes and additions I made concerned my coffee table situation, the liberation of music and – yes – my plant situation. I have had a set of two Ikea nesting tables for quite a while but due to the limited size of my living room I got a bit tired of maneuvering around them and constantly bumping my leg. The alternative had to be simple, airy, stylish and ideal for my interior style. The new solution is a wonderful mid-century design from 1965 by Danish designer Finn Juhl: the Tray Table. This coffee table comes in a variety of finishings but I opted for the teak version as it perfectly matches my recently bought teak bureau (also a mid-century piece from Denmark).

The other addition is a simple but decorative bowl inspired by the timeless beauty of mid-century design: the Case Study Table Top Bowl with a wooden stand by Modernica. Now this bowl can serve for many things – it could definitely be a stylish fruit bowl on your dining table but in the home of a real Urban Jungle Bloggers person it serves as a planter – for my large Tillandisa xerographica (airplant).

And last but not lease I have liberated my music from my MacBook and iPhone thanks to the Bluebeat GSB 500 Bluetooth speaker from Grundig. You know that my apartment is pretty small so such a compact Bluetooth speaker is ideal for me – I simply stream my music mostly from my iPhone and enjoy it everywhere. I’ve placed it in my hallway so that the sound reaches all premises – the living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Yes, I dance throughout my 32 m2. Plus I like the very reduced and sleek design of the speaker – it perfectly blends into the apartment without being too visible or disturbing.

Sometimes it is just a small thing you need to adjust, change or remove and suddenly your home feels again in tune with you. Why not give it a try?

Your posts are as inspiring as ever! And it is nice to see how you create such a wonderful atmosphere in your small Munich apartment. We are living in a fairly small “neubau” apartment too and I think it is great to see a home that I can identify with. As much as I find really beautiful all those old, elegant altbau homes with beautiful architectural details featured in the blogosphere, it is indeed nice to see how you are good at making your space so personal and authentic, even without having the obvious advantages of a typical classical building. I wish you a wonderful summer with your new furnitures and plants!

Thank you so much Özge, what a wonderful comment! Yes, I truly believe that everyone can have a beautiful and personal home, no matter what structures or advantages/disadvantages a space has. It is all about adding our personality to our interiors and thus making them special and meaningful! Have a great summer too!

Your table is beautiful; such a neat and stylish design. Our coffee table has a mid-century look and even has these kinds of borders and an extra shelf, which I love (it’s not a tray like yours). Okay, it hasn’t been the cause of a big headache, as I haven’t done a major search, but I have never had any luck in finding side tables or occasional tables that fit the style of our table table. This Finn Juhl could actually be the solution I’m looking for.

PS. That vintage (I’m assuming) mug in photo No. 8 – gorgeous!

Excellent Lisa – I think the Tray Table by Finn Juhl compliments any mid-century inspired room. I love it for its simple and airy look with typical design cues from the mid-century era. Oh and that cute little mug was a lucky vintage find on Etsy:-) I love its unusual shape!
