Textile lovers listen up! There is a new player on the market and I am very happy to introduce you to ‘The Rich & Strange’. The new webshop is launching today but the owner, Natalie Pfau, is not unknown to me. More than a year ago I had the first email contact to Natalie when I ordered a fantastic vintage indigo throw from West Africa through her aunt’s webshop and today Natalie has turned her love for textiles and cultures into her own webshop named ‘The Rich & Strange’.
Born and raised to a German-Colombian family of professors and artists, Natalie has traveled all her life. This passion combined with her love for textiles and foreign cultures has led to the founding of ‘The Rich & Strange’, a webshop packed with one-of-a-kind throw pillows, textiles, jewelry, and limited edition artisan made clothing. Some of you might know that I have a soft spot for one-of-a-kind textiles. Any kind of vintage throws, mudcloths from West Africa, kilim rugs and cushions, indigo textiles – I am totally in love with those kind of pieces. Especially sind all of them tell a story.
Today I am happy to not only introduce you to ‘The Rich & Strange’ but also to offer a giveaway to you in collaboration with Natalie: We are giving away one Cosmos Pillow made from a vintage corte (women’s skirt material) sourced in Colotenango in Guatemala. It is part of the shop’s first collection aptly named ‘What’s Past is Prologue’ which is inspired by the weaves of Guatemala and Mexico. The selected pieces come in striking colour combinations with modern geometry of Mayan and Aztec designs.
So what is the story of the Cosmos Pillow that you can win? It is made of hand woven material from the Colotenango region in Guatemala with brocaded designs symbolizing the ancient Mayan concepts of the cosmos, the four cardinal points, space and energy. The material usually made for clothing is transformed into a throw cushion and sewn in the United States and comes with an inlet. So how about having a piece of Guatemala and Mayan tradition on your sofa or bed?
If you want to join the giveaway, here are the rules:
- Go to the webshop ‘The Rich & Strange’ and tell me in the comments which is your favorite pillow pattern. If you want to double your chances, sign up to the webshop’s newsletter (the subscription button is in the footer of the website).
- Get an extra chance by joining the giveaway on Instagram too (Instagram giveaway rules will be posted there).
- The giveaway is open worldwide and will run until June 24th, 2016, midnight CET. One winner will be chosen randomly.
Good luck!
