During my trip to Madrid I had the opportunity to meet yet another Spanish design brandCosentino. Now do not wonder if you haven’t heard of Cosentino as well – for me it was the same situation. However, some of you might have heard or might even know Cosentino a bit better, especially those among you who have worked on a kitchen project, who have worked on a housing project or bathroom design. Why? Because Cosentino is a leading brand in the production of innovative surfaces for architecture and interior design – such as Silestone quartz or their latest material called Dekton. Now these might ring a bell for some of you!

Cosentino products can be found almost all over the house and public spaces – worktops in kitchens, flooring, wall covers, entire furniture units but also as practical and decorative kitchenware and decor items. A fantastic example of the latter is the collaboration between Cosentino and the designer Monica Förster: the table accessory collection named Twilight. The collection is comprised of sleek plates, bowls and cups as well as beautiful candleholders. The Twilight collection was presented for the first time at this year’s Stockholm Design Week.

Dekton is a material with a huge potential in architecture and interiors. It is very resistant to heat and scratches thus perfect for surfaces that are heavily used – for example in kitchens. Also their wide variety of Silestone quartz surfaces is stunning – there is a version that resembles marble but is so much more resistant and durable than real marble which tends to get stained by acids for example.

In order to better understand the full potential of Cosentino’s materials, we have visited two great restaurants in the Spanish capital: DiverXo, the only 3 Michelin star restaurant in Madrid with Cosentino materials in both the kitchen and the restaurant area, and the pretty new Tatel restaurant, owned by three Spanish celebrities (among them Enrique Iglesias and Rafael Nadal), with Cosentino materials in the kitchen and in the restaurant. And yes, we did not only enjoy the wonderful haptic of the Cosentino materials in those restaurants, but we also enjoyed amazing food (in between tweeting and instagramming of course).

For me Cosention was a new discovery and it if I had the chance to design my very own kitchen I think I would opt for Silestone surfaces with a marble look for my worktop. Now I only have to work towards my own kitchen.
