In Munich I live one block away from one of the best interior design stores in town with design furniture and home accessories from around the world. A few days ago I passed along the tempting window display and spotted a beautiful handmade piece for the home – one that I had already met. A few weeks ago, in a showroom in Barcelona: the wonderful Rabari rug by design duo Doshi + Levien for Nanimarquina. And just like that I had a little Spanish design flash in the middle of Munich.
While I attended our last design bloggers tour in Spain, I had the opportunity to meet the owner Nani Marquina herself and hear the story of her design label as well as interesting reports from all her travels where she visits the makers of her handmade rugs. We got an introduction to the new range called ‘Mélange’, too. It was created by a fashion designer named Sybilla. We were even asked to do an impromptu styling session with the ‘Mélange’ collection which was all fun. You know, we love to do those impromptu stylings after all.
My styling was inspired by the Mediterranean, I thought of leisurely days where you forget about time and space, get lost in a book and gaze at the endless blue of the Mediterranean. Well, that was what I had in mind and here’s what I made of it with the available props and the wonderful rugs and cushions by Nanimarquina.
What I liked about the Nanimarquina rugs is simply put in one sentence: The philosophy behind them, the handmade quality and the blend of of contemporary designs with traditional handicrafts. What’s not to love about that?
