How does this sound to you – houseplants with no plant care needed at all. Like a fab idea? Well then listen up! Spruitje is a young Dutch label that has one goal – to offer sustainable botanical worlds to the people. The guy behind Spruitje (small sprout in Dutch) creates futuristic designs with light and living ecosystems. The terrariums are inspired by 70s design, science fiction movies and nature above all.

Spruitje is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to get the business up and running. I was one of the few lucky ones to get one of their terrariums already. And let me tell you one thing: The ‘Pickles’ terrarium is just fabulous for my little apartment. Not only it looks stylish, but it also comes with a bulb and doubles as light and terrarium at night!

Terrariums are perfect environments for humidity loving plants. The ‘Pickles’ terrarium arrived as a kit which made it not even cool but practical too. While assembling the terrarium, you learn how to create a self-sufficient botanical environment. Layers of tone granules, soil and moss form a fertile bed for the plants. Once you prepared the basis and plants, water it slightly and give them a spritz and close the terrarium.

Afterwards the terrarium is pretty much self-sufficient. Place it in a spot with enough indirect light and the humidity inside will evaporate then condense and thus keep the plants happy and humid. I have taken these pictures a few months ago. By now my plants have grown up to the top of the terrariums. You can see a current picture on my Instagram account.

So if you want to add plants to your home but you want to opt for low-maintenance plants – or better yet no maintenance plants – go for a terrarium by Spruitje. If you support their Kickstarter campaign you can secure a variety of terrariums for a promotional price. Finally there is a solution for houseplants with no plant care needed!

It truly is Anya. And ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to invest too much time and effort in plant care. Or who claims to not have a ‘green thumb’ 🙂 Have a great week too!

Such a wonderful idea! At Homeology I only recently commenced an outdoor gardening project, (http://homeology.co.za/practical-steps-to-preparing-the-perfect-soil/) and I must say it takes a lot of consistent attention work and care to get the best results in outdoor gardening – This comparatively is no effort..
    – Thank you for sharing Igor! Also, I sincerely hope and wish Spruitje’s camapign is a huge success !

This is really no effort at all – the only effort I had was to fill the terrarium adequately. Ever since it is growing and thriving all by itself:-) Thanks for sharing your project, will have a look now! Igor x
