It’s been now almost 4 months since my trip to New Zealand and some of my souvenirs come only now into action. During my Auckland trip I went to one of New Zealand’s great interior brands, Citta Design, and I couldn’t help but shop and bring some souvenirs of Kiwi design to my own home. I bought a fun cushion cover and a lovely kitchen towel. Last weekend I was finally taking the two pieces out of my drawer and looking at the kitchen towel I was almost feeling pity for it to be destined to mundane kitchen chores like drying dishes. So I wanted another solution for it: Why not frame your beautiful design kitchen towels as a piece of art?
I simply exchanged my Manhattan map print with the lovely Madu kitchen towel from Citta Design. Paired with the Market Day cushion cover it makes for a fun and lovely addition to my living room – both from the colour and shape perspective. Nowadays there are so many beautifully designed kitchen towels and I am pretty sure that you have at least one at home. Why don’t you frame it too? I like how the textile structure in the frame adds an almost museum like vibe – it looks like those ancient textiles exposed in museums.
So in case you never heard of Citta Design, here are just a few of their lovely pieces from their home collection. I know New Zealand is really far away, but if you ever happen to go there, do not miss Citta Design in Auckland to bring back a piece of genuine Kiwi design to your home.

I love this idea! What a great way to make a feature of them – so many towels are far too nice to hide away in the kitchen and use for the dishes!
That was exactly my thought Abi!! Way too nice to dry the dishes!!
Love this idea Igor. The colour tones of the Citta Design purchases are a perfect match for your decor. I own this exact tea towel, but sadly got straight to work… wish I thought of this, but it still looks fab on the stove rail. Mel x
Thank you Mel!! It is a very lovely souvenir from my NZ trip and that idea came really spontaneously to me as I was thinking of changing the Manhattan poster I had previously. And I have enough basic and boring kitchen towels to do the mundane work in the kitchen, so I thought this beautiful piece from Citta Design has to go up on the wall! Plus the fabric behind a glass panel looks so lovely – like in a museum:-)
Brilliant idea Igor, love the quirky style of the towels 🙂
A xx
Thank you Anya! I love it too, somehow it reminds me of African patterns. And I love the colour palette of course:-)
Cool idea!
I have made a couple of shopper bags using kitchen towels 😉
Also smart!! My friend did the same. I offered her a lovely kitchen towel from a Finnish design label and she made a tote bag of it – it comes in handy when you know how to sew:-)
Is it DIY? It really looks gorgeous. I want to own these pieces too in my kitchen. For me it gives the space more relaxing and comfortable appeal. Thanks a lot for giving us another idea to put in our own kitchen.
No it is from Città Design from New Zealand!
