Why do people read interior blogs? It’s a question I ask myself from time to time as an interior blogger myself. Then again it feels easy to answer it too as I am a reader of interior blogs as well. For me, the main reason to visit and read an interior blog is to get fresh inspiration for my own home. I love the real home feeling of most interior blogs and it is so much easier to relate to those homes that feel stylish and lived-in at the same time.
One of the interior blogs on my reading list is Heimatbaum, the German interior blog by Pepper Schmidt. Her home is a wonderful combination of cool Scandinavian style mixed with ethnic elements – all perfectly mixed into a natural styling. Today I am taking you on a little home tour through Pepper’s stylish home and I am sharing a short interview with her. Enjoy!
Hi Pepper, tell us a bit about yourself & your blog.
I’m 29 years old and living with my husband and my daughter in southern Germany. I’m working as an interior stylist and photographer, but normally I come from the print media business. I started my blog Heimatbaum in 2013 to keep my far away living friends informed what’s going on, but soon it became a well read lifestyle blog with ‘Interior’ and ‘Family’ as its main topics. I’m sharing little DIY projects around home and living, introduce shops I like and give ideas on how to style your home in a natural way.
How would you describe your style at home?
I love the Scandinavian style as a base but I can’t resist ethnic patterns and organic materials. So I created a combination of Scandi and Ethno which I call ‘ScEthno’. It´s all about wood, leather, handmade ceramics, African baskets, many plants (I’d love to have a real tree in the house) and Kilim rugs combined with clean shapes and functionality. I want our home to be calming in a natural and ‘earthy’ way. And of course it’s important to be comfortable for a little child as well.
Is there one thing in your home that you love in particular?
At the moment, it is the fireplace in the living room. I love to sit in front of it with a cup of coffee and just watch the flames dancing.
What makes your home a happy home?
That’s my family. Without them, it would just be a place, but with them in there, it’s a real happy home.
Share one styling tip and one photography tip with us please!
Bring nature in your home! If you include natural finds in your stylings, they become alive. I prefer to shoot with daylight, without reflectors and flashes. How the light comes into your room is as characteristic for your styling as the styling itself.
Thank you Pepper for the little interview and the peeks into your beautiful home!
