First and foremost: No, I am not turning into a food blogger and no I will not include a fourth category to Happy Interior Blog named ‘Food’. Today however I am digressing into the spheres of simple culinary – after all it is part of happy living, right? But there was a more relevant reason to share with you a simple summer dish served in wonderful plates with you: My dear friend and fellow blogger Yvonne Eijkenduijn of Yvestown has released her first cookbook ‘Yvestown in the Kitchen’ in English. And this book is so much more than just another cookbook. It is a book about food and living in the kitchen. Living? Yep, so here we have the link to Happy Interior Blog!

I am a lucky guy as I can call Yvonne a friend. I’ve met Yvonne several times and we spent quite some fun moments. Yvonne and I share one very important characteristic: we are both genuinely happy people! If you’re in company of Yvonne you sure will be giggling and laughing all day long. Oh I do recall a fun road trip in the English countryside where we got lost and had so much fun. But I digress! Yvonne’s cheerful and convivial personality led to a cookbook that connects two linked elements: good food and good people to share it with!

‘Yvestown in the Kitchen’ celebrates the bonds that join us as we gather in the kitchen with family and friends. Hence this book guides us through various kitchens of a good bunch of Yvonne’s friends (among them our mutual friend Karine of Bodie & Fou). Each chapter introduces us to the hosts and their kitchen and shares their favorite recipes with us. It is conviviality on printed pages!

Do you know those moments in life when things come together just in the right time? That happened to me when Yvonne’s cookbook arrived by mail and a few days later a set of wonderful Falcon Enamelware deep plates in ‘Pigeon Grey’ found their way into my kitchenette. I knew this was a pairing made for blogging! Now since I am a poor chef (the only thing poorer is my terribly (un)equipped kitchenette) I opted for a simple recipe and since Yvonne is my friend and it’s summer time the choice was quickly made: Yvonne’s favorite salad from her book! A yummy mix of wild greens, edible blooms, juicy figs, savory beets and crumbly blue cheese was a summer night’s culinary dream! Served in a simple and timeless enamelware plate. Every bite reminded me of past summer days at my grandparent’s place with their old but wonderful enamelware plates and home cooked alfresco dinners.

Enough food talk! Have a wonderful summer weekend!
