In March we have decided to take another look at our plants – a closer look! We want to zoom in and discover the beauty under the surface – the unique patterns, textures, colours of our plants, those tiny little hair, the fine creases on the leaves and more. March is the month of the ‘Botanical Zoom’ – a close-up look of our green roomies.

As usual I was pretty late with my post – I actually took the pictures just yesterday, last minute again. When I started taking the pictures I quickly got to the point of frustration as I do not have a macro lens for my DSLR camera. Hence real close-ups are not really possible. I tried it with my iPhone 6S afterwards and realized that I can take better zooms with my smartphone. And then the idea was born – I will zoom in with my smartphone and take the picture of me zooming in with my DSLR camera. Voilà, a somewhat different botanical zoom!

I zoomed into some of my favorite houseplants: I had a closer look at the hairy edges of my Tradescantia pallida, I had a detailed look at some of my cacti and succulents, I peeked at my Pilea peperomioides, my Sansevieria and at my Oxalis triangularis. I checked up on my Tillandsia as well as on the Pothos. And every plant has beautiful and unique details – the botanical zoom has taught me that sometimes it’s well worth having a second look at our plants. Because every plant is special – just like we humans.

Thank you Yvonne! It’s the only approach that works in life, right? There are no problems. You just have to find another way to get to where you want to:-) And thank you – we can’t wait to get it published in September, but still a good way to go!

What an inspired idea – and the resulting pictures are beautiful! I once wrote an article about how design constraints can make us more creative. Your post here is a perfect example of that 🙂
