House plants not only create a more healthy and natural living environment, they add also to your personal interior styling. Recently we can see more and more green additions to stylish interiors – on blogs, in interior magazines, in shops. In order to show you the wide range of possibilities when it comes to green stylings, we have decided to dedicate this month’s Urban Jungle Bloggers series to styling with plants. The challenge for all our participating bloggers was easy: Pick one plant and style it three ways!
Whether you prefer a monochromatic space, colorful interiors, ethnic accents or a modern home – plants perfectly fit into every style and inject the fresh vibe of nature into your home.
But I need to admit one thing: Styling was pretty challenging for me this month. I was very often traveling and the rest of the time working in the office. The result was that I lacked time and natural light for my self-inflicted task. However, there was one single Sunday that gave me the opportunity to play around with my plants. And today you can see the result.
First challenge was to pick one of my house plants. After some pondering and trying, I’ve opted for my Sansevieria Cylindrica also known as Cylindrical Snake Plant or African Spear, a succulent plant native to Angola. I picked it for its sculptural look as I felt it might be the ideal shape to style around with a few props I found at home.
As for the three stylings I felt a bit desperate at the beginning – after so many design fairs in January I felt overexposed to stylings but I had to get a grip of myself, right? I looked around on my shelves, in my drawers, under my sideboards and I rounded-up a few props that I felt could work for my task. Now it was time to decide what goes with what and what’s the theme? Here come my three plant stylings:
Styling 1: The Playful Gentleman
This styling was inspired by geometrical shapes and a very reduced colour scheme. I chose a black, cubic plant pot and kept the vignette rather clean and simple. A black and white portrait adds visual impact and the watch in the front implies that the playful gentleman has just arrived at home. This vignette has a playful yet adult look-and-feel with a slight Scandinavian touch.
Styling 2: The Savvy Traveler
Inspired by my busy period earlier this year, I wanted to visualize my love for traveling with this styling. The colour scheme is rather calm too with blue-grey nuances but it gets a more vibrant touch through the use of a natural clay plant pot. The book refers to the yummy food I discover on my trips, the illustration shows the streets of a foreign city, the little packed box symbolizes my luggage and the seal recalls border crossings. All this is topped with a candle saying ‘Love’ – cause after all I love traveling.
Styling 3: The Paris City Boy
Yup, that’s me too – almost. Paris has become my second home and this styling is dedicated to my Paris life. A more colorful vignette with fresh greens and yellows, music for the ears, my favorite books in a treasury glass box and a candle for the cosiness in a Paris rooftop apartment – young and urban.
Now I am wondering: What do you think of my three plant stylings? And even more interesting: which one is your favorite? Please let me know in the comment section!

Yayy, I’m so happy for our 6th UJB adventure and even though you lacked light & time, you did a great job! My favorite is the first one, it’s so clean & modern… and who’s that guy?!! Also love the preparation images, a little peek behind the scenes! Oh and Paris is always a good idea 😉 I’m so curious what all the other bloggers are creating today! Can’t wait!
Oh thank you Judith! I love to see all the green inspiration on so many blogs today! I am sort of running short of time again – this time I can’t speed up enough to see and read all the incoming Urban Jungle Bloggers posts!! Yay!
I had much fun participating in this month issue and do love your pics, Igor! The last with all the nude shades is my favorite!
Thank you so much for joining in, Gudy, despite your busy schedule! Happy you like my styling, the nude one was actually triggered by my new headphones:-)
Love the savvy traveler! Just like with Judith’s I tend to be drawn to the terra-cotta colors. And who is the gentleman by the way??
Merci Giova! I too love the terracotta plant pots most – they simply symbolize plants and greens in the strongest way for me!
Ah, masculine and very Igor! Love the Paris City Boy. It’s definitely you:-)
It’s been great fun joining in this months and look forward to seeing everyone else’s… Magda says hi!
Oh thank you my dear Tina!! Yeah no. 3 seems to be calling my name, right? And speaking of names – after reading of Magda I feel like I should name my plant too:-)
Ah so lovely have the same plant in my kitchen and really like the 3 ways you put them for your shooting 🙂
Thank you Nina! I love the plant for its sculptural look and it is so easy to care for it – ideal for someone like me who is all the time traveling!
My favourite is the first styling. I love the flower pot and the gentleman …;)
Haha well, seems like it was a good styling trick to use the picture of a good looking gentleman to attract the attention of my readers:-) Thank you Anette!
hahaha I agree 😀
I love your stylings … and by far the last two are my favourite (I guess the Paris one beats them all 😉 It was hard work for sure but so much fun! xx
Thank you Ilaria:-) It was great fun indeed! And Paris is Paris, right? Love that one too.
love your styling-ideas and my favourite one is the paris city boy, just lovely shades 🙂 i join you this month, too, and had so much fun styling my houseplant no. i: the orchid!
can’t wait to see all the others stylings! greetings julia
Thank you Julia! Just saw your post – it’s awesome, really like what you did!! Thanks for joining the green fun!
Reckon I’d go for no. 1 (and the guy is very sweet too). I spy a few influences in your styling images 😉 But they’re all great mister. Well done!
Think I understand this ‘urban jungle’ idea more now.
Yes, I guessed no. 1 would appeal most to you. Although it could also pass without a few props for you, right? Yes, some Scandinavian influences from our mutual time in Stockholm are evident – they were too strong to be ignored!
How wonderful? Definitely I cannot choose one! But if I must… the third… for my music’s love 🙂
Thank you so much, Serena!!!
I prefer the styling 3.
Wonderful styling, Igor! I love them all! Jocelyn
Thank you my dear!!

Géniales tes idées de styling , I love the man héhéhéhé. Bises Nathalie
Merci beaucoup Nathalie:-) J’imagine tu le connais ce mec?
This is so “wow”! I really love all about this Theme and of course you interpretation of it. I do like “The Paris City Boy” most, because of its wooden elements. Looks so soft and like almost spring to me. I am so happy being part of this wonderful series! Have to check of all the participants <3
Thank you Ive!! You did a fantastic job yourself! Thanks for joining the Urban Jungle Bloggers fun!
It’s been a pleasure 😀
These are beautiful! Bravo! I like the first one; I like the forms and colours. And Nicolas Ghesquière 🙂 Can’t wait to get my things together to play around with my plants this week! Thanks to you and Judith for creating such a great series! xx
Thank you so much Lauren! Oh and finally someone who recognized the guy in my first styling:-)) Can’t wait to see your stylings!
Black, white marble and a hint of pale pink? Yes please! Oh, the lack of time and daylight, I totally understand. Your photos look so fab and light and airy nevertheless, how did you do that 😉
Thanks Yvonne! I tried my best and had to work on the pictures quite a bit afterwards:-)
Great post! Been looking into good ideas with which to fill my new home. Thanks for the pics and info!
I want to say I like No. 1 the best because Nicolas Ghesquiere is one of my favourite designers (smart move) but my heart chooses the second styling, it speaks to me.
Oh thanks Lisa – love to hear that! I guess you are a savvy traveler like me, right? And bravo for recognizing Mr. Ghesquière!
Dear Igor, I love your styling. Beautiful pictures with great personality. If I had to choose one I’d go with the playful Gentleman, it’s strict lines appeal to my love for things simple. I love the pastel color palette of the Paris City boy and Sempé has always been a favorite of mine. Oh well it looks like I can’t make up my mind.
Thanks for your comment Corinne and I am happy you like my three stylings. You did a great job too – thanks for joining us!
So cool Igor, I love your styling, my fave is the urban city boy – might that be you (or in-fact all of them are you:) Happy weekend my friend – I do love this series xx
Thank you very much Anya! I think no. 3 resembles most my personality. Happy weekend!
i really like the first one. can’t really say why but i think the plant looks very stylish there. 🙂

Happy you like it Stefi and cool that you joined. I really liked your stylings!
I’m feeling partial to the last one! Love seeing these different scenarios.
Thanks Kevin, the last one is my secret favorite too!
The first one, το μαυρο τετράγωνο κασπό είναι μοναδικο!
Finally I made it! I really, really loved participating this month and eventhough it was quite a challenge, I can’t wait for the next one!
Have a great relaxing weekend, dear Igor!
