Summer is officially over – sounds a bit sad but there is a good side effect to it: Urban Jungle Bloggers are back! And we are back with a very artsy topic – in September we want you to pair plants and art! Houseplants are a perfect complement for any home and combined with art they make a real visual statement. They also seem to be very complementary – sometimes the plants themselves seem pretty artsy, but combined with any kind of art their shape and colour can be further accentuated. And sometimes the art depicts plants and thus immortalizes them in our homes. Whatever option you choose, we can’t wait to see all your ‘Plants & Art’ interpretations!
I had a hard time to focus on one styling and pick one piece of art and one plant. Instead I swapped plants and art pieces throughout the photo shooting in order to get an idea of the changing visual impact. Luckily I had an adequate selection of art pieces (not to mention plants) to accomplish this month’s topic, and here’s what I used:
First comes my latest botanical art addition: The wonderful art print of a Sansevieria plant from My Deer Art Shop. I love the light watercolour look of the botanical poster and the addition of the precise botanical name of the plant plus the addition ‘Urban Botanic’. My Deer Art Shop offers a fine selection of limited edition botanical art and you have the chance to win one poster for yourself – but more about the giveaway later.
Then I paired my cute illustration of a greenhouse scene from Dutch artist Lieke van der Vorst with a new macrame wall hanging from the Etsy shop Littlewildwolf. I like the various hues of ochre and dark blues combined with the purple and green shades of my Purple Heart plant. Afterwards I changed the setting just a little bit by swapping the art piece by adding a real watercolor painting by Miami based artist Danielle Romero of Flora + Form and a palm tree for the tropical vibe. It was hard to choose which one I liked more.
Next was a watercolour poster of a Monstera plant by Munich based artist Andreas Hirsch. I like the leafy, juicy feeling of this poster – it adds an instant jungle vibe into the room and when plants are added it seems like the two-dimensional plant is brought to life by added three-dimensional, living plant siblings.
Last but not least was the simple addition of a vintage portrait in contrast to the bicoloured leaves of a Calathea. Not a bad combination either!
Let’s get back to the aforementioned giveaway: This month we have teamed up with the interiors community at{mine} for their monthly #StyleAtMine challenge and in collaboration with My Deer Art Shop you can win one of their botanical prints. All you have to do is the following:
Add your ‘Plants & Art’ picture to the Urban Jungle category on at{mine} (sign up if you haven’t done so far) and/or share your image on Instagram using the hashtags #StyleAtMine and #urbanjunglebloggers and tagging @atmine and @mydeernl in the photo caption. The giveaway is open worldwide and runs until September 30th, 2015.

Wow Igor! I love how you had so much fun pairing plants & art. You have quite a collection of botanical art… and plants 😉 And what happened to the purple heart plant? It exploded during the summer?! Just wonderful! Happy to be back for another season of UJB! Hurray!!!
It is growing like crazy – she seems to be happy in her new habitat! Here’s to more plants & art!
Everything looks so nice, like the pages from a magazine! I’m wondering, did the watercolour painting have an influence on your new blog colour scheme?
Maybe or maybe it was vice versa:-) Who knows!
Wow, I love this! Such beautiful colours in your home and great pieces of art combined with the plants! Your home is fabulous!

Hi Igor, you are right about plants and art. Looking at your pictures makes me wanting to go back and take more pictures of my pieces around the house 😉 or swapping a little.
Change is also good. Sometimes i do it according to mood or season. Now that summer is at the end -for instance- it’s time to bring some of the plants back indoors and find new position for some of them.
Time to try out new combinations, definitely!
well done on yours 🙂
