Last week I took you with me on my Danish design tour and we visited together iconic Danish design brands such as Royal Copenhagen and the Republic of Fritz Hansen. Today I am inviting you to join me to the third Danish interior design brand that hosted the tour: Dinesen. Dinesen is a family-owned business based in Copenhagen with a strong love for wood and deep respect for the nature. The most known product of Dinesen are its wide wooden floor planks – you know those wooden floors in Scandinavian apartments that we all swoon over? Chances are high they are from Dinesen!
Dinesen is a truly Danish brand. However, a majority of its wood is sourced in the Black Forest in Germany. But wood is not wood for Dinesen. They pay due attention to source the best raw wood and use every bit of it – no leftovers are accepted due to the deep respect for the wood and the nature. Hence, the biggest part goes into the production of the famous wooden floor planks, and the leftovers are turned into unique design objects such as chopping boards, bookshelves, stools and more. Even funky wall covers and ceiling installations – the best way to understand the wide variety of Dinesen products is by visiting their beautiful showroom in downtown Copenhagen.
As part of the design bloggers group I was lucky enough to not only visit their showroom, but also attend a wonderful dinner at the Dinesen apartment. Yes, they have an apartment in the old town of Copenhagen! How fancy, right? Sheer Scandinavian interior bliss! And since this tour was organized by all three brands mentioned at the beginning of this post, the dinner was a magical experience will all three brands: Walking on a wonderful wooden floor by Dinesen, sitting on colourful Series 7 chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen and eating from beautiful Royal Copenhagen porcelain. I’d say three reasons to go back to Denmark soon!
