Young German Design + Giveaway: Kimidori

18 July 2014 1

This week was pretty exciting blog wise – on Monday I took you to Portugal, on Tuesday I shared a fab room in the USA, on Wednesday I shared a design brand from Israel with you and yesterday we took a little trip to Denmark and one of their cool interior brands. And today? Well today I’ll go a bit local if you want so – let’s see what the design scene in Germany has to offer. And I am happy that I not only have a creative young design label to share with you, but a giveaway too!

Germany and the Germans are known to be very environmentally conscious so it comes as no surprise that sustainable design ideas thrive in Germany. One of these young creative labels is Berlin based Kimidori. You are absolutely right if you feel like that sounds more Japanese than German – the name is Japanese indeed and means something like ‘green vitality’ (ki = vitality, midori = green). And Kimidori is all about sustainable design: they stand for cool and urban upcycled furniture pieces made of palettes.

Kimidori is all about handcrafted, upcycled furniture for the urban home. It is a design philosophy that resonates with today’s hipster crowds that refuse to consume for the sake of consumption and ignore the effects for our planet. It’s a philosophy that goes hand in hand with a pursuit for a better life and an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The Kimidori team has designed a great range of coffee tables, chairs, stools, lighting and storage solutions – all made of reclaimed palettes. One of their latest pieces is the 45Β° stool or side table. This piece stands out with its simplicity, the reference to nature and comes in four colours (nature, white, grey, black) and it has won the 2nd place for the Green Product Award in 2013/14. The Kimidori team was so nice to offer one of their 45Β° stool for a giveaway to one of you, my dear readers.

What do you have to do to enter the giveaway? Just leave a comment under this blog post and tell me where you will put your Kimidori 45Β° stool in your home. Specify also the colour that you wish to win and make sure to join in until July 25th, midnight CET. The giveaway is open to all readers from the European Union (sorry for all the others). The winner will be chosen randomly. Good luck everyone!

Sooo pretty! We’d probably put it in the our dining/living room which we’ve just started to remodel. I’m sure it would look perfect! All colours are great, but I think nature is best!

the white one would fit so perfectly into my wardrobe, right next to the dresser… Have a good start into the weekend! Greetings from Fürth, Tanja

That label name is just too cool! I like the white-ish stool a lot and would use it with a ceramic platter underneath to display a larger bonsai I have in my living.
Wouldn’t that be a pretty perfect combination?? πŸ™‚ Have a wonderful weekend, Igor and thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

Hi Igor, thank you very much for bringing up such great designers and ideas :). I love this style, that palette chest of drawers has stolen my heart :). I love this stool, yay! Would be over the moon if I won one :D. I would put it just in front of my sofa, to look at it and stroke the wood :))). I noticed that bigger coffee table just collects things which I don’t want to have there every day (my daughter has her part in this crime ;)), so I was thinking to get something smaller, just for a coffee and some plant.. And maybe a candle :). And I love the lightest-colored one.
Thank you once more and fingers crossed for all the participants, good luck everybody πŸ™‚ <3

Wow, how wonderful – the label youre showing today is so fantastic.I have seen the furnitures made out of paletts on the fairs in Frankfurt and Paris and I definitely felt in love with them.
So I would love to win the white one. I would put it next to our balinesian day bed in our living room.
    Happy Friday to you,

Thanks for this lovely giveaway, Igor, and also for introducing this nice label! The nature stool would be perfect for our movie room/little lounge area. It’s not a big space, so it’s very practical that this piece can serve as an extra seat as well as a side table :-).

  • Reply lousammelt 18 July 2014 at 09:45

So pretty! I really love the white stool.
I would put it in my living room.

Hallo Igor, sehr tolle Sachen.

  • Reply Alexandra 18 July 2014 at 11:26

One of the wonderful things about this beautiful piece is that it can be used in so many different places in my home. I’d love the white stool in my entrance hall to start.

    Hey Igor!
I recently visited Prague and bought this beautiful, little statue… I think the dark brown/grey one would provide the perfect space for the little madame…
    Have a great weekend! Thanks!

I would love to go with the white one for my very first owm design office to impress my new clients. Wabooooom!

Hi Igor, We are currently in the muddy foundation stage of having a lovely Oak framed orangery added to our house. We’re not rich, we just really wanted it to fit with the area which is a little ‘village’ hidden near wembley. So, I’d put to stool in there as we’ll have no cash to furnish it (!) and also it will look great and bring some modernism to a classic space. I would go for the Grey one.

  • Reply Anonymous 18 July 2014 at 20:24

Cool brand. There’s a company here in London who upcycle from Palettes but these guys here do it better. I would opt for the very dark (black one?) and use it as a night table in my bedroom.
Thank you Igor for the opportunity.

Hey Igor, what a great opportunity! The only thing, that is left from the ‘Kinderzimmer’ in our apartment, is my boyfriend’s nightstand. We would love to switch it for such a cool design object like a black (dark, dark brown) stool…. *FINGERSCROSSED*

  • Reply Anonymous 21 July 2014 at 09:51

Sehr schönes Label, was du uns da vorgestellt hast.

As COO at Artfetch I love seeing young emerging talent getting an opportunity to be seen by the public. And even better if the production is environmentally friendly!

I would dedicate a corner of my kitchen to this beautiful little stool in the yellow-blonde color on the far left of the first image. It looks like a great way to invite friends and family to sit down while cooking or to use as a quick step-stool to reach the high above counter storage.

    Love the blog!
